Hi, I’m Hannah!
I have almost 20 years experience in animal training. Originally a Veterinary Technician, the more I worked in the field, the more I gravitated towards behavior and training. I have hands on experience with creatures big, small, feathered, furry and scaled, including: foxes and wolves, big and exotic cats, primates, parrots and corvids, elephants, farm animals, rodents and fish. (yes…fish can be trained).
I have been providing practical and effective cat training and behavior modification services to Greater Los Angeles for 15 years. I do not subscribe to shticks, dogmatic methods, or ideologies often encountered in the realm of pet training. I recommend people “work with the animal in front of them.” Every cat is an individual, so each situation is approached individually.
I like to approach each problem behavior/behavior plan as a puzzle to solve, building on a 3 step process:
1) Press “pause” on unwanted behaviors through prevention and management
2) Help you and your cat practice new, “good” behavioral patterns that can replace the current/old “bad” behavior patterns
3) Help you through the phases of introducing new habits to your cat from beginning to end by keeping in touch via follow up support.
I am a big fan of Classical Conditioning, using all four quadrants of Operant Conditioning (with a big focus on positive reinforcement!) and like to emphasize and help implement good prevention and management systems. Behavioral issues with cats are like wildfires: much easier to extinguish when they have just begun, or better yet, take steps to prevent them from happening in the first place! (I’m talking to YOU, new kitten parent)
I’m passionate about helping people understand and communicate with their cats better.
My super power is getting “cats who don’t play” to play.
You will hear me mention the word play a hundred times during our consultation together…because I can’t overemphasize how important it is to any good behavior plan.
I want to meet every single cat who’s ever existed, and I can’t wait to meet yours.
“No one around me could offer advice on my cat’s biting and scratching. I was worried that we would have to give up our new addition. I met Hannah and was pleased to find out that cats can easily be trained. It took minor adjustments in our lives, but the payoff was incredible! As a first time cat owner, I am relieved to successfully use Hannah's advice and training to my advantage.” ~ Andi P • Whittier
“I had never used an animal behaviorist before. This was definitely worth it. Hannah knows how to think like a cat and her guidance was very helpful with addressing some inappropriate play between my cats.” ~ Nancy S • Covina
“Hannah is a gem! We needed to introduce a new cat to our existing three cats and there had been some aggression between them. We researched methods online and tried everything before finding Hannah. I wish we had found her sooner. She gave us great tools and information to help make the transition smooth and successful. She was also available for follow up to keep track of our progress.” ~ Galina C • Palos Verdes
“Hannah was great with my kitten. She was able to address the issues with biting and scratching, as well as teaching her how to play while still respecting personal space. I was surprised that my kitten was so attentive and playful with her and responded very well to the training. I would highly recommend Hannah.” ~ Sally B • Silverlake
